what y'all dont realize is that in person, these paintings seem to glow, they seem to have actual depth, mark rothko was painting stuff that shouldn't even be possible

….that’s not the answer to the question.

Painted in thin layers of oil and turpentine. Infinite possibilities of colors and also overlapping color field on the canvas. His work is not so dissimilar to a composer that has it's own style and changes the notes through variation of the chroma. The fact that you should also stare at one painting to note all details in color's variation translate you in a meditative state in which nothing is represented, only you and the color. Soon enough you start remembering and associating things from your unconcious :)
I do not like every espressionist artist or contemporary art, but i find Rothko paintings so genuine and sofisticated. But first of all I feel so connected to the colors that he displays that all the reasonings comes after the sensation

Rothko painted these to provide a transcendental experience for the viewer snd remedy the spiritual emptiness of the modern society he lived in. It’s a well known phenomena for people to cry in front of these paintings.

I was tuning in to a radio show a few days back, as I came across Bloch's "Prayer" performed by a viola. It occurred to me that the two might go well with each other. They both convey a sense of complete introspection and emotional depth, while also being highly abstract. I thought that the potential synergy between the two might enhance your expectations of the overall artistic experience. ☺

Today that just seems so normal but back then he was pioneering.
Also didn’t he commit suicide in the studio where those were painted? I don’t think he got to enjoy that money. The price went way up after his death

In my opinion, if you think it’s that easy to do the same, it suggests you don’t fully understand what you’re looking at. Try it, by all means, but it’s likely to look very flat in comparison.

I don't even need to pick up a paint brush. There's superior richness and texture on the muddy concrete outside my apartment

Noone can duplicate other artists work. There's so much behind each artwork. Even if it gets close it will never be or fell the same. Rothko, very moving 😍✨💯.

It's a "big crock of horseshit" art if you ask me; hence, most of these artists never sell a painting while they're alive. They become rich after they're dead because the small clique who buys these paintings is made up of multi-billionaires, and all they care about is having something no one else can have; hence, these paintings sell at ridiculously high prices. 80 million for three blocks of paint on a canvas. A fucking tragedy!!!
