For anyone wondering why the language is making the price so much less, it actually isn’t. Nintendo is selling at a loss to help the market out because of the weakened value of the Yen over the last 5 years, which would make the pricing look even worse in its home territory than it already does in other territories, representing a doubling in price rather than a 33~50% increase as seen in the US, EU, and other regions.

I live in Japan and can speak Japanese but when playing games I kind of just wanna chill out and not feel like I'm studying. I'm still confused as to whether or not the system language refers to the menu or the games itself. And will games purchased overseas just not work with it?

Good video. I think it's great that the Japanese have a more affordable version. But it sucks not being able to buy the multilingual version in stores. Nintendo simply eliminated the option for tourists to buy a Nintendo during their trip. If it's to eliminate resellers, it's as simple as asking for ID and limiting the user to one purchase. I planned my trip in June because I wanted to bring my Nintendo back from there as the best possible souvenir. So no tourists allowed for the Nintendo console, but tourists for Nintendo World and the many other Nintendo stores in Japan wellcome to spend money.

I’m kinda confused. Would I be able to buy a Nintendo switch 2 in Japan that has the multi language version if I go on a vacation there? Is the multi language version like one that is bought in America and would I be able to use in America? Do I need anything to buy it in Japan that isn’t yen?

I moved to Tokyo 2 years ago, and was thinking I was just going to be able to just go to any store and get a Switch.

Decided till search on YT to see if there were any English channels and came across this video.

Terribly disappointing to know that my simple plan of just buying a console at a store is not an option.

The freaking lotteries for everything here are my only complaint about Japan.

Colombian spanish speaker living in Japan, I have not chances to enter in multilingual Switch2 lottery (switch online member for less a year). I think that register conditions are too hight. I think it would be enough to restrict the purchase to 1 per person or prove residency in Japan to avoid scalpers.

Great video.
I will be living in Japan until September and am still on the fence of getting the multi language system here. Definitely not the Japan only one as my main Nintendo account is German and I wouldn’t like not being able to connect that. But I always kept the packaging of my game consoles and shipping everything back to Germany sounds kinda annoying for only saving 30€ by doing so.
So I think I will just get one 3 months late for a bit more money when I’m back in Germany. Also, so that I have the insurance and everything in a language I am more fluent in.

So if I’m hearing this right putting Japanese software in a western switch 2 should still work…

Ah if it’s just a lottery thing I’ll just wait to get it.

I guess I’ll just import a region free switch 2 at some point in the future.

Or get a region free version when they are really available in store.

Idk, it’d be nice to get but I’ve got a pretty big backlog to slog through so I guess no rush.

I still don’t understand how the language options can create such a large difference in price.

What I'm wondering is if Games bought in Japan will work on the Switch 2 I will buy in Europe?

As a bilingual person, the Japanese-only version might make sense for me - but only if it doesn't have any compatability issues with the region free version.

If I can't buy games outside of Japan, or if I can't use certain features like Game Share etc. with region free versions, that would be the highest degree of BS.

The price hike for the region free version also makes me uncomfortable, given that there appears to be no actual hardware differences between them...

The only thing I can't figure out is how to pay for the Japanese Nintendo Online Expansion Pack from outside Japan. Everything else can be done via gift cards.

I mean, I don't mind Japanese but I would rather play my games in my native language, so... I was planning on getting a Japan Only system because I have a Japanese friend that comes often so he could buy it and bring it to me but he's not coming to my country until the end of the year so... importing the system will be as expensive as getting the international version so... I think I'll just get the International N/A version.

Besides xenoblade 2 and maybe hyrule warriors i can’t remember any switch games that were locked to Japanese or system language, is there like a list?

Ok this sucks! I was planning to buy the multiple language version. I think this is stupid. I live in Japan as well. And I enjoy the fact that I can play any region game on my switch. I worry this will affect my ability to purchase USA games or vise versa if I purchase a switch 2 on base. This sucks!

I live in Japan, but I don't know which version to get cos if I choose the Japanese-only, I'm worried that I may not be able to play games like Mario World Cart in English. LOL

That REALLY sucks. I have bought a bunch of games on my JPNS account but use my non-JPNS account to play online. 1 step forward, 8 steps back man....
