I fully agree with you Brian that the low cost car will be a hatch. However, an interesting challenge is that sure, it's smaller so fewer atoms, but this also reduces economies of scale by having different/new parts. However, since the TAM is ~10x the economies return again. Stream of consciousness apparently on my part.

The car could listen to the radio stream before it goes out the speaker and determine if the if there is a siren sound in the stream.

Remove the glass roof and replace with steel. Cloth seats. Remove the badging (Tesla logos). For a start

I worked in car stealerships and it was standard practice to “sell the paper” at a lower rate than the customer signed for and pocket the difference.

Brians comment of front of a M-3 or -Y with a hatchback is something I have wanted for a while. Seems it would really sell in Europe where the Golf ruled?!? I could easily see me change out of my old ICE backup car if we gets lucky. What I really do not see is that hatchback M-3 having lower price, so many people find those to be fun and more premium. I remember hoping they would produce a M-3 hatchback in Europe out of Berlin and import them back to the US before the IRA bill.

I feel like the need to hear sirens is a bit overblown. If you’re in the city and hear sirens you font do anything until you see an emergency vehicle. It’s a sensor fusion issue.

I had an ‘09 Acura hat had active noise cancelling: it had mics at the base of the windshield and rear window, and pumped an inverse of that signal through the sound system whether you were listening to music or not—in other words it was on all the time. It was pretty effective when the radio was off—did a nice job eliminating road and wind noise—and amazingly effective when you were playing music. The one shortcoming is that it had difficulties with the sound from a Harley motorcycle; while it did make them quieter, it also made them sound like a goofy cartoon motorcycle, it was pretty funny.

Europe is were tesla suffered a los, and the update of model 3 in usa early this year also affected the final sales numbers

Model S and X have active noise cancellation. I’ve tried toggling it on/off, and on some noisier roads it makes a very noticeable difference. I’ve often wondered why this wasn’t offered in the Model 3 and Y, but I’d assume it may be possible with a software update if they have similar microphones.
