This man has been performing at a high level since 2001 (actually he began competing at the Juniors World Cross Country Championships in 1997) when he broke into the scene in Belgium at the Worlds winning the Junior's and then the next day almost (as a junior) winning the senior's short course. Despite his inconsistencies throughout his career, he always performed at a high level. It is very difficult to maintain such a high level (psychologically and physically) for so long. It is 21 years already and still he performs at a high level. Most high performers in most sports (even in running) do not last more than 5 years and then after if they continue by 8 or 10 years their careers are over. But Bekele is something else, a true outlier that we will not see ever again.

I think he should keep running forefoot to be healthy and smash world record. He seems sometimes running rear foot and often suffers injuries. When he made good results he was running forefoot as this london and 2019 berlin .
