It's Go Time! Harvest 2023! #StaySafeEveryone

#StaySafeEveryone
Sunday Sept 24th we woke up to our “normal” Sunday, watched church then headed to Mt Lake for a bike ride. That afternoon Travis was helping clean out a grain bin with an auger inside. Things turned for the worst extremely quickly… both of Trav’s legs got caught in the auger, one up to his thigh.. Thankful for Wayne, Scott and Jordan with their thinking and quick actions. Also thankful to the first responders, ambulance team, fire dept, trauma helicopter and so many more that came quickly.
The helicopter landed at the bin site and they got Trav out of the auger, stabilized him and flew him to New Ulm for blood transfusion, then to North Memorial Trauma 1 Center in Robbinsdale where he immediately underwent surgery.

This is very hard to process and we are all still in so much shock as we all know the lifestyle that Trav lives and loves, extremely active and a constant goer, but due to the severity and to save his life they had to amputate left leg above knee and right leg below knee. Many muscles, tendons, nerves, veins and arteries just gone completely and/or severed, plus multiple bone shatters. There was/is a significant amount of dirt and corn in his legs so they are hoping the right can stay below knee level and that infection doesn’t occur but is very likely. He is intubated and sedated but is stabilized. They will perform another surgery tomorrow to keep cleaning his legs out to decrease risk of infection. Possibly more surgeries after that and make the more “permanent” amputation cut for best chance of prosthetic outcomes.

As life changing as this will be and heartbreaking to lose his legs, the doctor said just a few more seconds and he would no longer be with us. Since Trav is still sedated he does not know of his condition and losing his legs.. they think they may be able to remote breathing tube and have him wake tomorrow.. please send prayers. We know Trav is strong but this is going to be an extremely difficult and unimaginable journey for us. He is going to have a tough time not playing with his little girl for awhile and this life changing procedure. We love him and I thank God he is with us to see our little girl grow up and create beautiful memories.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Try closing the bottom Chaffer so the unthreshed pods are returned to the cylinder for rethrashing
