I love playing this song on the harp and I really love how Photos By Orion brought out my fun side in verse 2. Apparently I have one, but I forget sometimes! Also it was really fabulous to not have to mess with my hair on this video. The fabulous KerrieAnn did it all for me! You can find her in the credits below :)

My friends, are you ready for a New Year? I sure am! The harp is certainly one of the very oldest of instruments, and so it feels good to play this old poem, that was put to an old folk tune, on an old time instrument.

I wonder if Robert Burns knew that his poem, “Auld Lang Syne”, written in 1788, would become unanimous with the very moment thought of - in many countries - as “Happy New Year”? The old Scottish words in his title mean something along the lines of “times long since”, “long long ago”, or “days gone by” …and I imagine numerous other interpretations that conjure up thoughts of olden times and the nostalgia of longtime friendships…or in my interpretation, the depth of ourselves together through time. I may not be a poet but I find strength in our togetherness.

This reminds me of when I was younger and the whole family was living together, and my sister would play her harp for a long time every day. One day, late in December, she started practicing this, and had it ready for performance as soon as the new year was upon us, such a long time ago now. She still has her harp, we're just all our separate ways, but the family still comes together in love and music whenever we can! Happy New Year 2024 from Chicago!
