I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has a bit of difficulty reading Austen! Thank you for this video!

I thought I was the only one struggling with the P and P language, this comforted me.

I question the knowledge in this video. The action does not take place during the Victorian era (Jane Austen died a generation before Victoria became queen), but during the Napoleonic era as shown by the military being quartered first in Meryton, then in Brighton--at the time of the Regency. With her formative years during the upheavals of the 1790's, Austin reflected the social mores, beliefs and social structure of the more relaxed Georgian period. The context of coaches (no train travel), and the more liberal behaviors of women, who were much more closely chaperoned during the Victorian period, the novel offers a window into Georgian England. (while, of course, also examining universal human experiences) Austin's views on the landed gentry as a source of stability may be considered within the framework of the the major changes of the period. And the term "demeanor" is not equivalent to "behavior" but more about what a person does in terms how they present themselves including their affect.

In the Miss Bingley-Mrs.Bennet argument, could you substitute Miss Bingley with Lady Catherine? Im specifically talking about when she visits Lizzie and tells her that her family would not even speak of her if she marries Darcy. She goes on about how it would be impractical for Darcy to marry someone with no family connections or fortune. I know she has some bias since she ultimately wants Darcy to marry her daughter but I was just wondering if that could be a possible argument?

"Austen presents Pride as a character flaw that was very prevalent during the Victorian era"...

Erhm. No, she didn't. For obvious reasons.

Apart from that it's a great little video introduction.
