If you have friends or a community to play with... AMs2 is by far the best sim to start with! I race with my 4 friends 2 and they were new to simracing when they started playing ams2, they all had a MUCH better learning curve than mine (which I started with iracing). AMs2 has a plug and play mechanic, you don't need to calibrate almost anything and you can host a server with just one click (nothing like open ports on routers etc) and fill it with AI. Fun, practical, realistic and with beautiful graphics.

I grew up playing lots of car games. Everything from Cruisin’ USA to Project Cars. I’ve always played on game pad, but this year I got into a relationship with somebody that has a capable computer. He bought me iRacing and then of course I had to have a wheel, so I started saving. About 2 months ago I finally got my wheel (Logitech G923) and I’ve had the most fun I’ve ever had playing video games. iRacing is now my favorite game ever and I have something I can make content around. Anytime I have free time for gaming, iRacing is my go to. Every single time

I agree 💯% with your list. I was introduced to simracing thru gran turismo in 1997. I've have been fascinated in the genre ever since. I am a console hero, so my experience is limited to console racing which I am satisfied with. I have ACC, GT7 and Project cars 2 in my current simracing rotation on PS4/5. The constant development of gt7 is a great thing and the upcoming 1.9 update for ACC will keep me happy for a very long while. Ciao!

I love ACC, but think that if it were my 1st racing game (my first was from Papyrus) I might have decided to stick with flight sims. The learning curve on ACC is what I'd call "steep" for a true beginner to racing games.

probably put in around 400 hours total with multiple racing games on PS5 but this week I decided to try out iRacing and I am hooked on the formula vee races right now, definitely a learning curve coming from GT7 (my main game for a while), physics are a lot different, but in a good way. iRacing is so attractive because of the multiplayer aspect and leveling up your licenses. You really have to earn it :)

I started sim racing when gt7 came out never really done sim racing before that then i decided assetto corsa competizione on the ps4 because that's all i have until I get a pc. But wow the acc is amazing game im totally hooked on it and I'm currently working hard to get upto pro as I'm on silver at the moment but can keep up with the pros and even beat some of them.

Nothing beats iracing. It might not be the best for beginners but if you're going to learn properly iRacing is basically the main way to go

If you want an easy entry don't start with ACC or Iracing. Both are great sims and i love both of them but they are not for beginners.
Instead i would start with raceroom or ams2.
Rfactor is also a great sim and i think it's between ACC and Iracing.

GTR2, NR2003 and GP4 would be my recommendations for starting. Very cheap, works better on controllers than modern stuff and generally easier to control.

The best list without any doubts. I got AMS 2 and it was hard for me to switch from more arcade racing to sim, but I felt better and better with good satisfaction and now I will get ACC too.

I would say Race Room is the best to start.
It never evolves past rookies anyway.

It's great to see the genre evolve since I first played Turbo on the ColecoVision with the wheel

For a real beginner in racing games in general which can lead into sim racing I would recommend GT7 at first because it's at first easier than ACC and maybe not as frustrating just like you said. But if you have some experience the first choice is definitly ACC :)

If I had to recommend one single simracing game to a beginner, it would definitely be RaceRoom Racing Experience (R3E). It's free to play, or more like free to start, and it is a great game. You have to buy more cars and tracks to enjoy it fully, but overall it's much cheaper than iRacing for example. I don't quite understand why R3E is not more popular.

I've tried to like Automobilista 2 so hard. At least 30 hours hard. It looks gorgeous. But.. The physics. Even after the big physics overhaul and hours spent tuning I don't get any feeling from the car. The force feedback is strong and responsive, but somehow it does not feel like I'm in control. It feels like I imagine sitting in a slot car would feel. Assetto Corsa, RaceRoom and Assetto Corsa Competizione are on a different level, you can actually feel the tires and suspension, bumps and slopes through the wheel. So, yeah, I would definitely replace AM2 with RaceRoom on the list.

Ps. haven't even tried iRacing. It suffers from the same problem as rFactor2 for me: looks like you have to either use hundreds of euros to buy this and that or use weeks of your precious time to find out which add-on content you might potentially like before entering the grid. Just give me a reasonably priced beginner pack to get started.

A million percent on Assetto Corsa, adding mods. Even the base game alone is already pretty good, but the mods take it to new heights many of the other choices can't match in any way. It can be any sort of era or racing category simulator you want it to be. I made mine into a Japan 90's simulator with tracks, cars, and even streets to drive, drift and cruise on.

I highly recommend Race 07 as a first sim. lovely handling, lots of mods, affordable and runs on a toaster

I kind of like how iRacing has their cars priced. You aren’t going to just grab a car, try it, throw it in a garage and never drive it again like a Forza game. You have to think about the car and if you’re trash at first, knowing that you paid real money for it would drive me to get back in it and really learn it.
