There are some spy cameras that do not use Infrared lights. These are highly sensitive camera types that do not depend on IR lighting. If you see an ornament, or vase, or some other type of thing with a small hole in it, this could be a camera and or a microphone behind the hole. Get some plastic type electrical tape and stick a piece on top of the hole. This should fix the issue.

Check everything including the phone, the TV set, vases, coat hooks, smoke detectors, mirrors, lamps, and etc. Use your smart phone's front camera to look for IR sources.


If you find a camera simply cover the lens and microphone parts, or find the way to turn it off. There may be more than one camera in the room. There may be a camera in the bathroom and also the bedroom. When making phone calls other than calling for room service use your cell phone. Don't use the hotel WiFi. They could be monitoring the traffic and content on their network. There can also be a hacker in range that is breaking in to devices that connect to the WiFi. WiFi is a shared network! This goes for any public WiFi.

This advice is based on the assumption that every covert camera has an IR emitter associated with it - that's simply not always the case. With ultra low light sensors you wouldn't need any extra illumination.

This ONLY works if the "hidden" camera has IR LEDs. However, It is likely that they will have IR LEDs so they can capture video in the dark, but be aware that cameras do not always have IR LEDs. Also if you have a cell phone they you may already be bugged.

Exactly! People check into a hotel room, bug it, checkout, then come back a week or so later and check into the same room to retrieve the media. Most small cameras are battery operated as well.

Iam having this problem now . I been feeling like iam being watched & also hear clicking noises. So I downloaded a app detector .and there's several hidden cameras it picked up . Iam in brand new rental with new appliances. It's seem to be one on my stove and microwave behind the lens that tell the time .! Also my smart tvs, and I ordered some newborn dolls around Xmas and all six of them are scanning cameras hidden . This is very scary. That's why I don't trust apartment . Because they come in when your not home. I even have a old cd player that bugging off when I scan it . No one should have to live this way.

Infrared is only for cameras that support night vision, a lot of hidden cameras don't have it, and you won't find them with your phone.
