As residence life and housing professionals, we may serve as in roles as first responders, student supporters, or conduct officers in situations involving sexual assault or gender-based violence. When working with survivors and complainants in these situations, it is essential to understand how best to approach these interactions to provide care or respectfully gain necessary information. During this webinar, attendees will view a lecture on the neurobiology of trauma and its emotional and physical manifestations given by Dr. Rebecca Campbell, an expert in the area of violence against women. This will be followed by discussion and an open forum with Stephanie Atella and Dr. Ryan Holmes on ways to apply this knowledge to survivor advocacy and the conduct process.
Ryan C. Holmes, Ed.D., is Assistant Vice President for Student Support (AVPSS) at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). He is also a past president of the Association for Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA) from 2012-2013.
Stephanie Atella, MPH, CHES, is a Senior Health Educator at Loyola University Chicago’s Wellness Center and the Project Director for a Campus Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women. Stephanie served as a primary negotiator on the Negotiated Rule-Making Committee for Clery Act updates under the Violence Against Women Act.
