Arcane made me play viktor and ekko and I was actually good at them that time

The lore really carries my want to play certain champs

Maybe the real lore was the friends we made along the way.

TBH the lore has stagnated for a LONG time. There have been all these crazy shakeups in the past, but they never seem to amount to anything, really. Gangplank died, except he didn't, Viego took over Runeterra, except he didn't, etc. The problem with the lore as that as much as we want it to advance, to tell an overarching story, Riot can never bring that story to a satisfying conclusion, or their whole IP will go along with it. So they just have to, like, pretend like things are changing? It's weird. I don't envy the writers. Stories need to end, to progress, or they lose meaning. It's like what happened to comics, but even worse, since the story of Runeterra isn't what they sell, meaning at the end of the day, the champions in the base game are what matters, and those will never change. They'll just keep adding more and more until the whole thing collapses under its own weight.

It's a real bummer, too, because like you've said, the world of Runeterra is genuinely one of the best fantasy worlds out there, and I just hope we get more big projects like Arcane, since when Riot puts real time and money into it, it seems like they feel okay with shaking things up a bit. Still, you gotta wonder what's going to happen to Arcane when it catches up to modern day in the core lore...

I think the main reason is Arcane. With the release of arcane they are going to want to make sure that popular characters can be pulled into the show together. I think they will want to avoid stories that say Ezreal was on the other side of the world and then decided he would be perfect to include for a season of arcane.

I quit league for a long time till i read the ruined king novel and i absolutely fell in love with Kalista her story is just so unbelievably tragic if anyone here likes fantasy novels I can’t recommend this book enough to league fans

While I hate to say it, as much as I love legends of runeterra, I think as much as it’s done for the lore it’s done just as much bad, I think the writers have overly relied on the stories from LoR to overkill compensate for the fact they aren’t writing anything, now it’s just a created a severe lack of cohesion and narrative direction that’s made it all feel really shallow and pointless

I think the lore isn't just maturing and evolving, but changing altogether. I wouldn't be surprised if RIOT slowed down on written stories for the time being, based on the allocation of their resources, in favor of focusing on different areas of storytelling. It's a bit pessimistic, but I would prefer to be pleasantly surprised - say by a big announcement out of nowhere - rather than disappointed by more of the same

If you haven't checked it out, the novel about Kalista, Viego, and Thresh (among others) is great. Diving into that made me want to be those champions in the core game.

Man, you are one of the few content creator related to lol who are so optimistic, most of them have already left lol because they burned out of the game or they simply see that the lore is not progressing and they throw negative projections, I am glad that you hope for the best

Would make sense to slow down to restructure the Lore team, They mentioned in a vlog that they wanted to make the lore more consistent across media. They might in fact be planning for the next 5 years to have a the lore in a good place for the MMO.

If you are right about Riot preparing something bigger like major IG event, something about Song of Nunu and Project L. I still think that in big picture the MMO taking some of the potencial or already written (not posted) lore into it. Some small lore that is happening around runnetera that can be set up for different locations in game or maybe the big Darkin event could be the main event of the MMO at release. Still the nothingness we got is strange

If not for the masterful writing and creativity behind his creation, I highly doubt I would have mained Jhin and played him for so long back in the day.

Thank you for making a video about it, i've been asking myself the same question for some time! Riot lore has literally the potential to be something completely independent.

The ruination novel can be the best history ever told it will doesnt matter, the event killed all of the interest me and my friend had for viego and shadow isles as a whole. we just dont want to haer this characters ever again

Really sad Naafiri didn't get a color story, coz she has the potential to have an incredible one just because of the theme and character.

Riot turned from passion to corporate: they only focus on what sells. That is why Lux and MF both have 19 skins, Ahri second with 17. Lore is interesting to read and feel but... it doesn't bring in any money, unless you can monitize it like a tv-show... which also leads to new skins... lore -> money.
I wish they still had any passion left because I love the lore with a passion, my champion picks are even based on how cool of a character/lore they are, but it is literally cash-grab at this point. Seraphine is the pinnacle of that mentality.

While I like that we get really in depth stories with Riot Forge and Arcane I’m really disappointed we don’t get little stories here and there.

Games and shows take years to create and perfect while a short story can be made within a month or so and still progress something in the lore (even if only slightly)

I stopped caring about League's Lore after the Sentinel's event. Went from stories with really good drama and sadness like Camille's or Orianna's lore, horror like Finishing Soates, The Host, etc. To what it felt like watching a straight up Marvel movie in Sentinels with very corny jokes, no stakes, no personal story beats and a very tired end of the world threat which personally I'm very desensitized by since everyone grows up with cartoons the that have world ending threats.

I knew at that moment that Riot didn't know what to do with it's vast world. They were great at writing the personal self-contained stories, but really bad at tackling large plotlines spanning multiple champions.

Its such a shame Riot doesn't push LOR more. Not only is it a really good and well monetized (as in its not predatory/evil) card game, it also shows off Runterra's lore really well. A lot of characters in the "wall of text" stories get camios in the form of cards in the game. LOR is the thing that makes me fall in love with Runeterra's lore.
