The best part about this program is free installation up to 80 ft. That should cover over 75% of installations in single family homes. There isn’t a dollar limit.

But, what makes no sense is using their gigantic, big footprint 80 amp charger limited to 48 amps. They have a smaller 48 amp model which makes much better sense.

Even if you wanted to pay Qmerit extra money for 80A connection, very, very few people will have spare 100 amp service in their panel. And Ford bidirectional charging requires more equipment.

Inside EVs article on this includes some of the details Patrick wasn’t sure about - 60 amp service, 80 ft of wiring with no trenching, working with a specific installer Qmerit. Evidently applies to purchase or lease.

FYI: 80 A charger (EVSE) requires a 100 A breaker and allows for 19.2 kW of charging. That's fairly fast charging. I'm not sure the Mach-E can even charge that fast. My son's seems to max at 11.5 kW (48 A) and is a little bit flakey at that rate. I've downgraded it to a 40 A (9.6 kW) Wallbox w/power sharing and it is happy. That big charger is for the F-150 Lightning, which can handle it and do bi-directional with the remaining equipment.

Thanks Patrick for this video! Your buddy Kyle is the only person I have seen that has ran out of charge twice on a F-150 lightning 😂

Cool! Now, here I am, two years and 36, 000 miles into owning my California Route One, using the included 110v charger with no issues. Of course, I'm still waiting
on my Ford Tesla adapter that was supposed to arrive September 30th. (That was today, I'm not holding my breath.)

Ford is upping its game for new owners! Good to see. I just attended NDEW in Las Vegas, and answered questions like these from attendees.

The one thing before buying an EV is have an electrician check your break box I got all excited and purchased my EV then when I started to look at how I was going to connect up the charger which is emporia highly recommend that charger, after about three quotes because I wanted the charger on their separate garage we have to have a new panel so 14, 000 for installation and then there was another 1, 500 for trenching could claim some of it because I have my own business so it's just a thing you might want to look into before you jump in to an ev

When GM did this for Bolt sales, the "free" install was not very free. Installers find ways to get around the terms of the free install program. Hope Ford does better.

Ford, keep promising accessories. I can’t even get my adapter that I ordered in February.

Hey Patrick love the blog and I just have a qiuck question thats a little off topic but would appreiciate your opinion. I have heard that when charging one should only charge to 80% or it may end up affecting the battery life. Have you heard of this and what do you think if so? Thanks and keep doing what youre doing for the EV world!

I feel like the towing thing sounds silly, but we gotta fight past peoples negative thoughts about EVs. Even if it does seem to play into those ideas

Good video, as always. I own a Mach-e and a Plug in Escape. They both are great vehicles. Almost all the miles on the Escape are electric, except a couple of road trips. The Escape isn't under powered at 210 hp. My 1992 Mustang 5.0 had 225 hp. The maintenance really isn't much more the Mach-e, just add an oil change once a year. It would be too difficult to go to Big Bend National Park in an EV. There still needs to be much more charging locations in Texas. At least Ford PHEVs are well made ways to drive electric 90% of the time.

Why 80A? Most people are going to need another subpanel in their garage to use that, or even a service upgrade from their power company, especially if you have 100/125A service at your home. You definitely aren't installing an 80A breaker if you only have 100/125A service to your house.

Dang, I bought my Mach-E on Sept 20th... 11 days too soon for the free charger and installation!

Does this include leasing or just purchasing?

When I saw “Ford’s NEW Power Promise”, I said to myself, “Have we reached an inflection point yet? This ad will tell. If it’s all about a bigger badder planet busting gas guzzler, nope; we haven’t reached it yet. But, if it’s about electric vehicles, yep; we’ve reached it.” Yep, we’ve reached it.

How will it help people in apartments? Strange the portable charger is not included anymore?
