Minutes from the Reserve Bank of Australia's May meeting reveal borrowers narrowly avoided a larger rate rise this month and should expect a huge increase in June.

The RBA increased the cash rate by 25 basis points during its May 3 meeting but deliberated higher options.

The minutes show a rise of 40 basis points was seriously considered, fuelling speculation it will happen at the next monthly meeting.

The interest rate when I took on my first mortgage was 17%. Don't over borrow.

The RBA should have started raising rates gradually 6 Months ago. As usual they were asleep at the wheel so now quick and panful rises will hit everyone hard. Take a bow Philip Lowe, your a legend.

Not exactly a huge rise considering the kinds of rate rises we had in the 70s and 80s. Just get on with it.

Cash is king now. 3-4%TDs now available and rising. Equity's shaky as hell and housing bubble deflating. Mega debt cycle about to come home to roost. Crypto
