He always gets very emotional when he sings Daididau and he gets response from people who has learnt the song in Kazakh.

A song that Dimash sings packed full of emotion and passion is daybreak, live at bastau, an extremely sad heartbreaking songs which is a true story about a young boy who watched his parents die in a cable car accident in China after lifting him to safety, the lady who wrote the song adopted the small child, Dimash throws everything he has into this song. He sung it on the singer show too but had lost his voice the night before the show, he still sung it better than most other people could have and was fantastic but omg bastau was something else

This was a huge honour and very emotional moment for Dimash - when he sang this song at this event. it is not just a sad love story but Kazakhstan's unofficial Anthem. And it is particularly poignant today- as political unrest raises it's ugly head once more in this beautiful country with a proud people and a proud history reaching back many centuries.

This is the story of a silenced Kazakh Poet born in 1893, named Magzhan Zhumabayev. He adored his wife; Zuleikha and his nickname for her was Daididau, but they were only together for a short time before he was arrested on false charges of treason.
Zhumabayev was a nationalist and his work formed part of a movement of patriotic activism that got him into trouble with the repressive Stalinist Regime of the time. His works were banned & purged from public libraries and people were forbidden from mentioning his name. Daididau went to great lengths to try to get him released - travelling to see him in the remote prison and lobbying influential intelligentsia in Russia. She succeeded briefly - but he was rapidly rearrested.
Whilst in prison he was falsely told she had abandoned him and was now living with someone else. He wrote this poem, sadly begging to know the truth, which was later set to this music. Zhumabayev was executed in 1938.
Daididau spent much of the remainder of her life gathering and preserving his works and lived long enough to see her husbands name posthumously cleared and his reputation rehabilitated - in 1960. Following Kazakhstan becoming an Independent Republic in 1991, in 2018, on the 125th Anniversary of his birth, Magzhan Zhumabayev was finally formally recognised as a great literary figure, scholar and patriot. In the background, over the years since his death, the poem "Daididau", was set to music and rapidly attained the status of a widely shared folk song. When Dimash performed it on the Chinese Singer Program in 2017, accompanied by several traditional Dombra players, it rapidly gained a vast international audience.
