Barbie is a film directed by Greta Gerwig and written by her and Noah Baumbach. It centres on the eponymous doll as she leaves Barbieland and enters the real world. The Mattel-produced Barbie movie combines humour, fantasy, and real-world issues while also taking Barbie and Ken on individualised experiences that forever alter them.

The ending of the film is perfect and here's why—it's not a typical fairytale ending and it's open ended. It's very realistic for Barbie atleast. The film also represents childhood innocence and I think the characters exactly portrayed it. Once you get the taste of freedom, realization of death or your future dreams, and experience the "real world, " you can never really go back to being an innocent kid again, in Barbie's case, the days ahead of her are going to be different/not the same anymore since she has finally gained consciousness of the world around her. She'll continue to search for her own calling (in the real world), not someone else's idea on how she should live her life (in Barbieland).

At the end she said she wants a meaningfull life. She has visions of a happy family. So since a doll doesn't have kids - no genitals, now she goes to the doctor to confirm she can create a human beeing > have a kid. Just as she saw from the creator > that is the path she said yes to.

idk who need to hear this but some people do. Just because it’s a movie mostly directed towards women/mothers and girls doesn’t mean that it’s against men.

Barbie is known for her "Barbie anatomy." Children see it a lot because she has a lot of outfits they want to her to wear. So it makes perfect sense she's at gynecologist. She now understands one of the first things you learn about growing up: your own body. She's come to the right place to learn about it since...well, we all know what will eventually happen and a good education will help her understand why and how, making the eventually experience easier to experience.
After all, she wanted to "grow up" and be human: she's ready to understand the purpose of Midge.

There are a few things that were missed in this analysis - 1. the elder lady (the costume cameo) and the 2. montage of families. It's my thought that there is something underlying all of these things - and that is to embrace life, from the beginning to the end. Barbie reacted very strongly to the Birkenstocks and the cellulite ... both of which were part of the end. Also, when she signed in at the office, she signed in as "Barbara Handler" ... the daughter of the creator. At its core, I believe this is a movie about mothers and daughters, about creators and that which is created ... and that includes motherhood (that which was 'discontinued' because it didn't fit the social image of Barbies) and aging women (who are no longer perfect and beautiful in a cosmetic way, but know they are at their heart). This film makes those things, those wonders and beautiful parts of being woman, the core message. Note also the montage of families, mothers and daughters, that the 'realization moment' of Barbie when she makes her decision to become a 'real' woman ... what's the most 'real' part of being a woman? Participating in life, being the creator of life and not the concept of plastic perfection. What's Barbara wearing in that final scene? not a bit of pink and ... Berkenstocks.

The moment Barbie took a walk with Ruth Handler in Barbie land explaining how she was unsure about her place in the world, Ruth sweetly listening and guiding her - Barbie then deciding that she wants to be human.

And then the scene in the car with Gloria and family in the car in the real world encouraging Barbie, showing how she is loved and supported.

All of that and then to the end scene you’ve talked about is literally perfectly made cinema

It conveys Barbie’s feelings of insecurity, wonder for what it is to be human & joy so brilliantly

Margot did such an amazing job. Truly 👏🙌

Visiting the gynecologist is a perfect ending. Here having a vagina symbolizes living life fully not just a facsimile of life/adulthood that is Barbieland. Such a good movie !

Margot Robbie's Barbie was the original Barbie that Ruth Handler created in 1959. Even before Barbie got to the real world, she already started to experience sentient emotions, like asking the other Barbie's if they ever thought of death. As you could see all the other Barbie's didn't have the same sentient emotions. Because Barbie disrupted the time continuum between Barbieland & the real world; that allowed her to develop those sentient feelings that the other dolls didn't have. So, therefore Barbie already began to lose her innocence even before she got to the real world. The real meaning of the ending of Barbie is that people should strive to become what they want to be. Peer pressure, family pressure or other societal norms shouldn't define for them who they should be.

Honestly I did not like the part where Ruth shows Barbie what the real world is like . She makes a point of saying in good conscience she can’t let Barbie become human without showing her what human means. But then all she shows Barbie are happy things . We all know the real world is not all sunshine and lollipops. If Barbie was really suppose to make an informed decision on becoming human Ruth should have shown Barbie a variety of things . Now I will say I loved that they included Ruth in the movie but this scene didn’t do it for me

I think this film empowers men. It teaches them to not live in a womans shadow. To respect themself for who they are. I am so glad they didnt marry at the end or that would have undone the whole individuality statement. I also loved seeing the kens holding hands also two mens giving ken a kiss. This also allows men to feel able to show they care about a male friend without stigma of "oh hes gay" so well done Barbie x

I just want to know why she went to the gynecologist. This wasn’t even the ending explained, it was a summary of the movie

Thanks for explaining it to the people who don't know that movies can have messages.

I always thought her last line in the film really confused me, because it can come across as many options of what it means. Is it checking her body? Birth control? Maybe Midge will have her baby? Ok that last one was far fetched but dang it she needs to have her baby 😂❤
