The X-Men are a superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer/editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby, the team first appeared in The X-Men #1 (September 1963). Although initially canceled in 1970 due to low sales, following its 1975 revival and subsequent direction under writer Chris Claremont, it became one of Marvel's most recognizable and successful franchises. They have appeared in numerous books, television shows, 20th Century Fox's X-Men films, and video games. The X-Men title may refer to the superhero team itself, the eponymous comic series, or the broader franchise including various solo titles and team books such as the New Mutants, Excalibur, and X-Force.

In the Marvel Universe, mutants are humans who are born with a genetic trait called the X-gene which grants them natural superhuman abilities, generally manifesting during puberty. Due to their differences from the majority of humanity, mutants are subject to prejudice and discrimination; many X-Men stories feature social commentary on bigotry, justice, and other political themes. The X-Men have fought against a variety of enemies, including villainous mutants, human bigots, supervillains, mystical threats, extraterrestrials, and malevolent artificial intelligence. In most iterations of the team, they are led by their founder Charles "Professor X" Xavier, a powerful telepath who runs a school for mutant children out of his mansion in Westchester, New York, which secretly is also the headquarters of the X-Men. Their stories have frequently involved Magneto, a powerful mutant with control over magnetic fields, who is depicted as an old friend of and foil to Xavier, variously acting as an adversary or as an ally.

Early X-Men issues introduced the original team composed of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel, and Iceman, along with their archenemy Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants featuring Mastermind, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Toad. The comic focused on a common human theme of good versus evil and later included storylines and themes about prejudice and racism, all of which have persisted throughout the series in one form or another. The evil side in the fight was shown in human form and under some sympathetic beginnings via Magneto, a character who was later revealed to have survived Nazi concentration camps only to pursue a hatred for normal humanity. His key followers, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, were Romani. Only one new member of the X-Men was added, Mimic/Calvin Rankin, but soon left due to his temporary loss of power.

The title lagged in sales behind Marvel's other comic franchises. In 1969, writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Neal Adams rejuvenated the comic book and gave regular roles to two recently introduced characters: Alex "Havok" Summers (Cyclops' brother, who had been introduced by Roy Thomas before Adams began work on the comic) and Lorna Dane, later called Polaris (created by Arnold Drake and Jim Steranko). However, these later X-Men issues failed to attract sales and Marvel stopped producing new stories with issue #66 (March 1970), later reprinting a number of the older comics as issues #67–93.

Giving these legacy characters a new life was one of the greatest moves in movie cinema. Hopefully, Hollywood will continue to give them a chance and not botch it

Shawn Levy’s excitement in EVERY interview is just absolutely amazing and contagious. 😊(Like Channing asking him what he wants in a take and him excitedly saying “I trust you! You ARE Gambit”)

"A whole universe of character who never got their ending"

If that was their goal, they sure gave Jonny Storm an ending

In the scene where they show us the 4 characters, when that “growl” came on and the Blade music everyone in the theater went completely nuts. I loved that they gave Channing Tatum that shot to play Gambit. Tatum was trying to make that Gambit movie for years. They had a script but it just never got green lit. Hopefully they do a Gambit movie with Tatum after this. I think that it’s going to happen. A origin story film would be fantastic and of course have it somehow tie into the TBE and everything going on in the cinematic universe. I would definitely go see the Gambit movie if they made it and a lot of people would. There are a ton of Gambit fans and I think that Tatum did a great job playing him. The outfit was on point and it was awesome

hopefully they will understand they don't need to make galactic explosions to be relevant and just tell a good story

Those red and black eyes for Channing’s Gambit though…AMAZING. It would have made his Gambit PERFECT. (I know they said they tried and it just didn’t look right, but damn, that concept art! 🙂)

It mustve been surreal for them i cant imagine just getting a call and being asked "hey you wanna play that one super hero you did like 20 years ago?"

We even got at least one villain from every movie. Anybody notice that?
The russian from the first punisher.
Blob from Origins.
Sabertooth from XMen.
Deathstrike from X2
Azazel from First Class
Juggernaut from X3 Last Stand
Pyro came back, sabertooth came back.

Like this is an all star listing of villains. And the funny thing is. Sabertooth was never confirmed dead after storm blasted him. So he could come back at any time.

Every one of them happened
- Except Ghost Rider and Daredevil, they should've been there
