Tracking Hurricane Ian: Troubling trends in Ian's forecast track | Recorded 1:58 p.m. 9/26

Ian has become the fourth hurricane of the 2022 hurricane season.

Ian has satisfied the definition for rapid intensification, meaning an increase in the maximum sustained winds of 30kts in 24 hours.

There are troubling trends in its forecast, but models show Tampa is expected to get a direct hit.

This meteorologist is the best meteorologist I have ever heard!!! He knows exactly what he’s talking about and offers complete information, but he also explains everything and ties it all together instead of just using ‘weather jargon, ’ he makes a point to explain it clearly - this allows you to get a better understanding of what all this means!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
STAY SAFE!! ✨

As a middle school science teacher, the ease at which the broadcaster delivered such thorough and clear information was fantastic. I will be using the video in my classes and tracking the storm.

Dear KHOU-11, in my opinion, you have in this articulate, insightful, meteorologist a national treasure. Brilliance on this order is self-evident.

Dang Tim! I have followed you from virginia to Texas! I have no idea about hurricanes because I live in Minnesota... but I've learned a lot from you sir! RESPECT!!

I’m in Tampa. This is a well prepared community. Media makes it look like lots of panic but it’s not. We have excellent structural engineering and we will be ok. Evacuees have gotten out of Dodge as they should and the rest of us on higher safer ground are well prepared. No doubt it will get ugly but there’s no need for loss of life and people here have been through storms before.

The best weather report I've ever heard. Meteorologists like this supply people with all of the required information to make life saving information. Critical decisions such as whether or not to leave or sit it out. Great job ! ! I notice the channel didn't put this professional's name up on the header. They should from this point forward.

Tim is by far the best meteorologist in the country, period. I live in Florida and for years I would watch his youtube videos when he worked in VIRGINIA on News13 WVEC in a state that doesnt even get hurricanes.

@KHOU 11 Please post more of Tim's hurricane coverage. I would rather watch him halfway across the country than my local news. He does a great job explaining everything, smart, informative and straight to the point. WE NEED MORE TIM!!

The huge uncertainty is all due to the high pressure "bubble" moving across the northern US and how fast it moves west to east. A difference in distance of a few hundred miles of this high pressure means the difference of whether Ian tracks north-east or north-west, and the high system can move that distance in just a few hours. The stall in Ian near St Petersburg /Tampa/ Tarpon Springs is because the center of the high is projected to be directly north of the storm at that time. It's similar to balancing on top of a ball and for a day the storm really goes nowhere.

I've noticed that the KHOU weather people are above average in explaining what's happening. Nice job.

Am I the only one that sometimes thinks that hurricanes are living creatures watching their trajectory and behavior? 🤣
