I have just checked the Government website on flying the Union Jack. Generally, you are allowed to do so, and the site gives details about it.

Yes you can fly our flag in your garden. Councils states, as long as it doesn't block roads, car Windows if the wind is strong, if the flag on on the pole is banging, you can adjust the ropes and secure it. The person/s who told you to take it down, needs re -educating in the office, and correcting. If it was a nasty neighbour, tell them to attend to their own business and sod off. Many people need to put up our flags on their houses, windows, gardens, and on our British buildings and only our flags of the United Kingdom.No others.🕊️✝️✝️🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 Please put it back up, I have put my small ones in my window and garden. Sold out of bigger ones. 23rd April St George's Celebrations for our Country, and more will be taking place.
