Grandview Campground, in the White Mountains of California

Grandview Campground is a lesser known camping spot in the Inyo National Forest. When you hear Inyo National Forest, it tends to conjure images of the Sierra Nevada, but Inyo National Forest is also home to the White Mountains. The White Mountains are on the Eastern edge of the Owens Valley, and within the White Mountains is Grandview Campground. It is also located on the same road that takes you to Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest and the Schulman Visitor Center. We take you along to explore these spots in this video.

Its first come-first serve, or was in 2023

Grandview was moderately busy (>50% of spots occupied) when I was there in early October 2023. It is a wonderfully quiet high desert area with a truly dark sky, excellent for astronomy. Bring your own water into the White Mountains: There are no springs or streams, Grandview campground has no water, and even at the Visitor Center, water is only available for sale - and very pricey. There are no bearproof storage boxes at Grandview because there are no bears. The ecosystem is not productive enough to support bears.

When did you go to this campground if you don't mind me asking? It seems very empty and I also noticed that they don't have bear lockers there. I have been thinking of going there, but would want there to be people.

Well done! Its so rare to find a YouTuber who gives the viewer all the Nuts & Bolts of the adventure. I'm usually saying "What lake is that? Where are you? How did you get there?". The only pieces of information missing for me is your filming date and temperature. Its been many years since I've visited the Ancient Bristlecone Forest. You've inspired me to plan another trip there soon. Thanks

As an avid explorer of the Eastern Sierras, I’ve always wanted to venture further to the other side of Owens Valley. Very well done!♥️

I visited the Bristlecone Forest in the spring a year ago and planned on camping at Grandview Campground, but it was still too cold at that elevation. Glad to see it looks way more comfortable at this time of year.

I love it there. I've been there 3 times. Climbed Mount Barcroft at 13, 000 feet. Tried to climb White Mountain Peak twice and failed. The altitude slowed me down and I didn't give myself enough time. The night sky at the campground is perfect for star gazing. The video is great.

I always love how informative your videos are. I learn something new in every video. I have never made it that far west, but your videos make me feel like I have.

Cool video, my friend. Looks beautiful up there. I can’t believe it was once the bottom of the ocean. I enjoyed the history in the visitor’s center and the scenes of you guys cooking and camping. You have such a great narration voice.
