Critics Pick The BEST Films of The Year

The upcoming Academy Awards are celebrating the best works in film over the year, but their picks might not match the choices of the What the Flick film critics! Which were the greatest achievements in filmmaking? And did they get overlooked?

My favorite was, hands down, Under the Skin. Beautiful, unnerving, original, daring, breathtaking, and unforgettable. I've never been so entranced by a movie.

Under the Skin is my favorite. It's a film so sparse in narrative and yet so richly textured in atmospheric detail. Truly shocking, resonant, and haunting experience.

I said it in the review they made of the movie and I'll say it again this time: Christy giving the perfect pronunciation of Iñárritu is super sexy.

My favorite movie this year was The Babadook. Brilliant performance by Essie Davis, and the story was really deeply layered for a horror movie

Boyhood's my pick as well. I can't deny the emotion I felt, I was damn near crying by the time Mason left for college.

Nobody who has played the Lego-branded video games was surprised by how good this animation style looks and can work as a storytelling vehicle.  Outside of the Arkham games, Lego games are pretty much the only place to go for good licensed games.  Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Batman, The Hobbit, Marvel heroes, etc.  There's even a Lego Movie game, and it's pretty good.

The Lego Movie was basically a Lego video game without the interactivity, and I mean that as a compliment, as I loved The Lego Movie.
