That's cool you got Logan on for this

I think too many people think that a game's score automatically starts at a 10 by default, and then you can start deducting based on each nitpick, rather than giving a score based on the overall quality, i.e. excellent, good, average, poor, etc.

Lets get Logan on the podcast!! Would be interesting to dive into IGN's review system and get to know the faces behind the scores.

Regardless anyone's opinion on this game

I hope it sells well enough to make sure there are more continued Mario and Luigi games being made
Because I love the series of Mario and Luigi
And I hope there's more that are being made even if it's by the same studio

I disagree with a lot of this review. I really enjoyed the game, not because I'm "giving Nintendo a pass because I grew up with it". I just genuinely thought it was a good game. I get the game has issues, but I wouldn't call it the "worst Switch game of 2024."

people forget, you can have fun with garbage, but that doesnt change the fact that its garbage. and you cannot get mad when people accurately point out you enjoy garbage. at that point youre being illogical

While it does have hella issues with story and performance, the game wasn’t even that bad. I give it like a 6 or 7 out of 10.

People saying "but the final parta of the game are so good!" is such cope, we should just ignore 70% of the game to enjoy it?

I feel like people have missed the point of reviews over the years. A number doesnt define if a game is unanimously good or bad, its more of what that number means to the reviewer and if you personally agree with the viewers tastes. It doesn't matter how much someone like Wood praises Zelda or Arlo praises Pikmin if I only like shooters and jrpgs for example. If you agree with Wood and IGN on Brothership, great! Maybe you have similar tatse and should avoid those games. Disagree? Also great! Go find one of the many 9/10 reviewers and maybe take more recommendations from them. It will be a lot more productive than getting mad that different people can have different opinions.

Everytime someone brings up how you can’t control Luigi for puzzles, I keep thinking that y’all forget this applies to every other M&L game after superstar saga

The whole reason why I love the original Mario RPG games is from the story. Also will have to say that Luigi’s Mansion (the original) was better at showing Luigi’s personality than this game. The original showed it with actual dialogue while the other ones still had personality, they didn’t show it through the dialogue. Luigi Logic made me think of the SpongeBob “I have an idea” meme. The Luigi logic was cool but it could’ve been way better especially if you could—you know ACTUALLY play him other than the battles

Calling it the worst game is a bit sad but I understand the criticism.

I’ve been playing M&L series since superstars. Big fan. Brothership is admittedly long but as a long time fan, I’m ok with that. I know not everyone likes long games & prior M&L are relatively short but when AlphaDream went downhill, I thought the series died. So, I was happy with Brothership & happy that I could invest hours & hours into it.

this game was a fine example of why i borrow games from my library before buying them. i waited 2 months for my turn with the game and i was so disappointed

This being Nintendo's worst game of 2024 really shows how good this year was for the switch despite being its last

There are far worse and more boring games out there on Switch....Brothership is fine, it's not the best M&L game out there. It has issues, most likely because Alpha Dream being gone.

I’m playing the game right now and I’m about 15 hours in and I genuinely love this game. I know it’s not perfect and has a fair share of problems. But this time I chose to not let the internet to tell me how I should feel. I love this game a lot!!

The more niche a franchise is, the more honest a reviewer can be about their opinions on the game. Nintendo fans have set expectations for Mario games, such as the belief that no Mario game should ever be rated below a 7. IGN is large and broad enough that they don’t need to appeal to this expectation, while a nintendo-focused review site such as NintendoLife is incentivized to give a score that they anticipate will be the consensus.

You’ll find two main camps of Nintendo fans when talking about brothership. One group contains the fans that unequivocally love anything Nintendo, and outright deny reviews such as the 5/10. The other group will acknowledge the flaws of the game, but will say that the game still “deserves” a 7/10. This is that Mario barrier that I mentioned in play.
