I feel so bad for Bonnie. She did the best she could with lackluster lines and scenes they gave her character. She was such an incredible character in the books and I so wish she could have brought that to the 8 movies. Thanks for bringing this to light in this video Dean! It helps paint Bonnie in the light she deserves to be in

My daughter and I were just talking about this very subject last night. We were watching the Half Blood Prince and saying how they could have had such an incredible character. We don’t blame Bonnie at all. They had the right actress for the job. Just the poor decisions.

Can’t blame her, she did a solid performance though IMO.

In Alan Rickman’s diary entries that were published into a book, he mentioned his struggles with trying to get a line changed for Snape. It sounded like the scripts were locked in and he had to fight to change something. If an A-list and older actor had crazy pushback when he tried to advocate for his character, I imagine there was little hope for a young Bonnie being able to make changes. I hope we get some better Ginny writing in the reboot… fingers crossed 🤞🏼

I like Ginny as a character. I was one, perhaps of many, that didn't read the books until after I watched the movies. I didn't fully realize or understood how underdeveloped the movies were. I still enjoy the movies but under a different light after reading the books.

I've never viewed it as Bonnie's fault. She didn't write the script, she didn't descide how much screen time Ginny got.

The “love” between her and Harry just felt awkward and pushed..I would have loved to see so much more of her. She is absolutely beautiful and a really good actress.

I loved her portrayal as someone who didn’t read the books first. I felt terrible after reading the novels that she was robbed of the chance to portray the character to her full potential.

3:42 This confirms my suspicions, there was sabotage for Ginny and Bonnie. Steve Kloves sabotaging Ginny by playing favorites with Hermione, and the executives also wanting to prop up Hermione because they saw that Emma Watson got her glow up and grew stunningly beautiful and Bonnie not much, so if it wasn't for the fact the Harry and Ginny relationship became canon in the book, Ginny was going to be thrown completely on the wayside.

Bonnie could have 100 percent played book ginny, it was the way the script was written alot of the time

I’m not a Potterphile but I read the series every year between Halloween and Christmas… the movies are rich in atmosphere but the books just can’t be beat.
As an actor, I loved seeing how Ginny went from little girl to calm, centered, young adult Ginny and did so with such economy of movement. Ms Wright accomplished with scraps what lesser artists would have given up on and just played for the check. At least they gave her some full face moments in which she told whole stories in the single flick of her eyes.
I say Brava Ms Wright for making more of Ginny than you were given to work with.

Who can blame her, she's Absolutely right and the fans clearly agrees with her.
We love Ginny and want to see this badass side, all the more reason why we NEED this new harry potter reboot.
I'll take a reboot just for a badass Ginny and a few other obvious changes.

(Ravenclaw is a eagle *cough cough*) peeves, Ludo, a goblit of fire thats more accurate
and so much more left out

Bonnie Wright did great playing Ginny! I bet she’ll show her future child the films one day

I know everyone is skeptical about a new Harry Potter show/ series, but that's really the only way to solve problems like this

I think she did an amazing job with what she had to work with. Many of the characters were destroyed in the movies. They tried to take massive works and force them into two hour movies. It is similar to trying to take all of The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings and make a 30 minute cartoon. They assumed everyone watching the movies just KNEW the books. My son who has problems reading has only ever watched the movies, but I sat with him and explained everything the movies ignored or got wrong.

You're right, Ginny was some people's favorite character! Cassandra Clare wrote a whole series that originated as a Ginny/Draco fanfiction pairing. The author changed it enough to become the Shadowhunters series, which was pretty successful on its own (got a movie and a TV series)

I totally agree! Ginny was so much more than we saw on screen.

So agree. Ginny is still one of my favorite characters and Bonnie fits the image of her perfectly. Such a disappointment that the producers and execs really did not care for her character, she deserved sooo much more.

I agree with her. It’s the same thing in Twilight with Kristen Stewart (her character being awkward and all), but it’s the script! I thought Kristen Stewart did a good job in the film “Panic Room”. In the end, these actors are just doing their jobs based on what is given to them.
