She was talking about her own personal experience with female directors (so far), her last movie that came out just a month ago was directed by a woman. The statement could be interpreted as generalizing when taken in isolation, but if you watched the interview it was clearly a contrast or hyperbole reaction to the criticism targeted towards women (probably from some within the industry) labeling them as "emotional" and consequently “difficult” to work with.

She has worked with and praised multiple notable male directors before, and she has done it often in interviews. One most recent example among others is Adam Mckay, who she has long expressed admiration for and the desire to work with, he directed the movie that came out before her most recent one (Don't look up).

She can have her opinion without being attacked for it. It's her opinion ffs everyone is so touchy these days. If you don't agree with her opinion don't agree. It's simple.

Jennifer Lawrence is a highly successful actress. If anyone should have an opinion on whether gender influences a directors ability it would be a highly successful actress.
