This is real world test of BMW 530e plug-in hybrid. This time I'm testing how quickly you can charge battery using petrol engine and what is fuel consumption in 2 separate rides: 1st one is charging battery and after going electric, 2nd always driving on AUTO eDrive mode (hybrid).

Interestingly this was the only place in the internet where I could find this information. Thanks!

Fantastic job, really well done! And not easy to explain so clearly in a 2nd language - really impressive. I look forward to seeing more of your clear and scientifically structured videos.

Thank you for doing this, I’d also wondered what charging from the engine cost.
We absolutely love our 530e. We traded in my wife’s 2014 Mercedes E350. That was a gorgeous car, but Mercedes lost out on making another sale to us because they don’t sell the hybrid versions of the E in the United States. When I eventually replace our BMW X1 I will want to get a plug-in hybrid vehicle as well.
The only thing I would change on our 530e is that ours has the Performance option with the blacked-out grill and 19” Goodyear F1 summer performance tires. Nobody is going to take a 2000kg hybrid luxury car out to track day, but I suppose the BMW brand has to reflexively offer sporting options anyway. There is a big demand for the 530e and there were very few available in the Southern California so this was the only one in stock with the color and other options we wanted. Luckily in drought California all-season tires aren’t really a handicap; you can count on your fingers the number of days in a year you drive on wet pavement,

Nice video. Very well described. I am about to purchase a 530e and I am running out of YT videos to watch :)

Very instructive! Thank you!
One thing could be good to know, the same travel with conservative battery, I mean you start with, for example 60% battery and drive with "battery control"60%, for knowing the real difference of consumption between charge mode and "hybrid mode without consumption of the battery energy".
That's in order to know the real additional consumption of the mode charge.
Then we can compare, 1 liter of petrol is+/- 10kWh, and where I live (Belgium), 1kWh is 0.25€.
Thank you for your video! 👍🙏..!

Bravo Romas!!! Excellent job! Can you tell me, why for you it is twice cheaper from socket? I have the same car, petrol here is 1, 37€. And 1kwt from the soket is 0, 3€, in may we wait for 0, 37((((. Can you calculate for me which way is better for me with this pricing? Thank you vvery much once more!!!!

That’s a fantastic video, but i tell u something, the 530e engine is the same engine as 520i g30 right?
Then we all know the 520i eats around 5.4l/100km combined so if u drive it on charge mode there no way that 530e eats 10l/100km, if we give also a few liters extra for extra car weight and charging process also would not be 10l/100km.

thanks for the video it helps a lot to understand better. So if I understand correctly, if I have to do short distance around town, I put it on full battery mode. but if I plan to do a long distance on the highway like 150km, I leave it in hybrid mode and this is how I am going to get the best potential? thanks a lot

one thing you did not do to just drive on petrol, I have heard it gives around 50mpg, is that right?

so what mode the regen breaking, can you not set to to only chage when your breaking and not use the perol enginer to much to recarge all the time, 42 MG see fairly poor. To charge this car in the UK with current electicity prices would be 9KW/h to full it currently £0.69 per KW/H so it costs £3.66 in electricity, or the same as 3 Litres of fuel. so here it costs you over 3 litres of equivelent petrol in electricity charges. I am stugging to see the cost saving for the EV part what am I missing to its benefit.

Hello. I just wonder that if you use the car without charge or electric. Only gas engine. What would be the consumption?
