My students pronounce the 's' in 'island'... They find silent letters perplexing and keep on asking me why there are silent letters in the English language! I just tell them that this is the way English is! Any other more convincing answer than this one? Thank you for this amazing video :)

I'm not native English speaker and I love watching your videos. I like to play little game, I'm pronouncing every word (most of the time pronouncing it good) and checking if I spoke it more like British or more like American. I figured out that I have more American pronunciation
