This Rare Futuristic eBike is a Total Nightmare

The bike activating itself and trying to sprint away from its operator like a frightened horse is the funniest thing I've seen all day. I've never seen a bike have its own fight-or-flight mode.

The USB port is actually stupid too. It is not water resistant and mounted upwards, so it rains into the plug. Debree and mud are going to make it unusable during the first rain. USB ports on motorcycles are usually pointed downwards and backwards so the water can run out.

This bike is the perfect representation of your average tech bro destroying the world around us: removing tried and true things that make the world a better place, forcing you to take extra steps to use tech that doesn't work, and taking your money and running away when it ultimately doesn't work. Beautiful. The teardown video of this is fantastic.

Alex Lim is the CEO of both Beno and Reevo and lives in Singapore. Reevo and Beno are both US shell companies in an attempt to shield the owner. They had a partially functional prototype at launch minus the motor drive and spent millions on themselves while they contemplated if they could make their design actually work. Straight up fraud? No. Blatant disregard and financially irresponsible? Definitely.

As someone who designs little electronics as a hobby, its very interesting seeing the design choices around the bike. You can really tell where the funding / drive fell off when they were designing things, like the tail lights for instance. Those are just basic, off the shelf, LED strips, and while theres nothing wrong with that, just having it exposed instead of having some kind of diffuser or shroud shows that it wasn't a priority. Same thing with the USB port; super useful to have considering the cell phone requirement, but just having an incredibly basic USB A port exposed to the elements (Literally straight up facing any potential rain or moisture) shows that they didn't have the time to test how it would function in the real world.

Obviously, you get that vibe from the rest of the bike, but still interesting to see that the cheapness and poor design choices wern't just limited to the bike parts they used

You got it right. Brakes are THE most important feature on any vehicle. Being able to stop is so important that anything else hardly even matters.
