I'm sure you all know how it feels to learn something new each time we study. This year studying this block, I noticed something special in Omni 1:25-26. Amaleki's words of admonition are very specific to the events of his life. In v. 25 when he pleads with his readers to "come unto God, the Holy One of Israel, and believe in prophesying, and in revelations, and in the ministering of angels, " that parallels the events in verses 12-13 when Mosiah and his followers were saved from destruction by prophesying, revelations and the power of God's arm. Then Amaleki specifically references 2 spiritual gifts; "the gift of speaking with tongues, and in the gift of interpreting languages" (v. 25). Why would he specifically use those gifts as examples of good gifts from God instead of any others? Look at the impact those gifts had during his lifetime. How did they impact the interactions and relationship between Amaleki's people and the people of Zarahemla (see, vv. 17-18). Also, Mosiah interpreted the stone of Coriantumr "by the gift and power of God" (v. 20). How special to Amaleki was the information contained on that stone?
Amaleki had lived a life filled with testimonies of how important it is to stay close to to God and "partake of his salvation" (v. 26). He watched what happened to his own people who fell away and were destroyed. He learned about the Jaredites who fell away from God and were destroyed. And, he saw the pitiable condition of the people of Zarahemla (Mulekites) who didn't know God even though their ancestors had. To me, all this makes Amaleki's words so much more powerful - "come unto [God], and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him... and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved" (v. 26). It's not just a powerful and true verse of scripture... Amaleki has lived it firsthand.

I liked how you tied the Book of Mormon scriptures to the Old Testament and other world historical events in the same period. It helped me better understand why some prophets may have written what they did. I also appreciated that you took the extra time to carefully go through each of the scriptures. I didn't notice the part about Mosiah and Messiah. Mosiah has the same ending as Isaiah (which is the Arab or Aramaic form of the name). Where Isaiah or Yashayahu means Yahweh is Salvation, Mosiah could come from Moses (and is similar to Moses in the OT) and mean Moses is Salvation or on whom the people can find salvation. Remember that Messiah means Anointed One. Messiah or MSIH is a name commonly used among Egyptian Copts (Egyptian Christians).

First verse of language of his father. We know the was modified but we also know that when the records of the Jaredites were found it was written in the ancient language of his fathers. So Enos is preserving the ability to read those records.

I would like to mention that Emma Smith and Oliver Cowdrey both mentioned in their journals that Joseph would spell the names rather than try to pronounce them. That's why we have Nephi pronounced with an "F" instead of following the Egyptian way with the "PH" pronounced as a "P" and an "H". In short, NEP-HI would mean the good or beautiful child.

I see the point you made about Mosiah instead of Messiah. Remember that Messiah is the English way of saying it which reflects somewhat of the Semitic way of saying it. Mosiah (with all letters pronounced) would be the way Messiah is pronounced. In short Mo-syah. Where Mosiah would be the name "follower of Moses". And Moses is like unto the Son of God in that he saved Israel and Mosiah saved the Nephites (as you mentioned). I think it would be nice to revert to the proper way of using Messiah and not the Greek.
