I love the soft kick and dull guitar playing under the vocalists voice in the Chorus/drop. It really emphasizes the powerful voice of vocalist AND it describes the song title - " Shadow of you "

*Thumbs up*

Hello, Jon. I'd really appreciate if you read my review for the only track on your library, that I don't like, and give me your thoughts, as to if you think I'm being over dramatic, or if you also had trouble accepting some of her style, technique, and execution.

My HONEST opinion, as a musician and song writer:

BEAUTIFUL composition. The music in this track inspire a feeling of suspense and emotion. It demands a transitional mix of emotion and it does it well.

The lyrics are very well thought out and go great for the feel of the song.

Now the vocals... TERRIBLE. The mix is fine, but the vocals sound forced to me. The way she goes down in tone during "shadow of you" and "dark and empty room", is poorly executed. As well as saying "shadow of A you". Could have done without the "A" I know I'm probably wrong, but it sounds like she's trying to channel that older style of singing that became big in the 50's, or something close to Adele, but she does not do it well. It sounds like she's forcing her singing through puckered lips.

But the way she transitions into "tearing me apart" and the rest of the song, is very nice and suits the instrumental.

However, she again ruins a lot of the great decisions she's making as a vocalist, with an "uh", that sounds so out of place, it almost kills the authenticity of this song. Then, in what feels like she is trying TOO hard to be creative, she pauses the word (mo, oh, oh, ore). I think she could have added to the beauty of Jon's music, by not trying so hard to be different. Luckily, Jon's work on the music makes it difficult to completely ruin this song.

I had to write that review, because I love every other song from Jon, and even acknowledge this vocalist has a strong and pretty voice. Had she made a relaxed effort to compliment the music, instead of trying to out do it, I think this would have turned out to be a wonderfully executed song.

This is just my opinion as a compose/producer, singer, and song writer.

This is why I had asked if there are any songs that you weren't pleased with, as far as the vocals go.
