OLDEST ROCK CUT TEMPLE IN INDIA - The 16 Kondhane Caves and the Lomas Rishi Cave are 'unfinished.' Like the Pyramids at Giza and the 'Mother Goddess' Temple City, today called Teotihuacan, all construction across the planet stopped after the attacks that precipitated the Geographic and Magnetic North Pole Shift in 10, 520 BCE.
Mauryan Architecture in the Kondhane Buddhist Caves and on the Barabar Mounts - The "Barabar Hill Caves, " are the oldest surviving rock-cut caves in India, with additions dating from "Askoka the Great" of the Maurya Empire (322–185 BCE). This cave has an arched facade that imitates contemporary wooden architecture. On the periphery of the door, along the curve of the architrave, a line of elephants advances in the direction of Stupa emblems. This is the characteristic form of the "Chaitya Arch" or Chandrashala, and it became an important feature of Buddhist architecture and sculpture for many centuries.
The Barabar Cave Temples are considered to be the oldest in India. The Buddhist Cave Temples in India are OLDER than the oldest Hindu Temple. The Adjanta and Ellora Caves form an important part of Indian rock-cut architecture and are among the most prolific examples of rock-cut architecture worldwide.
There are more than 1, 600 known rock-cut structures in India, out of which about 600 date to before the Pole Shift in 10, 520 BCE, 500 were constructed by Buddhists (between 300 BCE and 600 CE), 300 by Hindus (from 600 CE to 1200 CE), and 200 by Jains (from 200 BCE to 1200 CE). During the 2nd century BCE through the 4th century CE, the Hinayana Buddhist caves were constructed. These include the caves of Kanheri, Karla, Bhaja, and Bedse, and the most famous of these, Ajanta, is situated in the western state of Maharashtra.

I would call them tunnels not caves. To me a tunnel is manmade and a cave is natural.
