Sorry this happened. As a photographer I would have given you the chance to rectify the situation. As that photographer he/she should have gave the same business etiquette and let you fix the issue. Having a small business is hard and I am sure he/she knows how hard it is to get known as a photographer and you both could have come up with something to benefit each other. Still a fan!
