Jeffrey Sachs offers a historical reflection on U.S. foreign policy from 1945 to the present. According to Sachs, the United States' strategy was first to defeat the Soviet Union, and after its collapse in 1991, to continue with the goal of diminishing Russia’s influence. Sachs highlights how much of the Cold War narrative, blaming Stalin and the Soviet Union for everything, was partly an American construction. This geopolitical project, initiated at the end of World War II, even involved collaboration with former Nazi scientists. Despite the Soviet sacrifice in the fight against Hitler, which resulted in millions of lives lost, the end of the Cold War did not bring the hoped-for global peace, but rather an attempt by the United States to exert total control over global affairs.
