A tip for those who like/want drinks such as Diet Sprite, Diet 7 Up, etc, but don't want the aspartame, or sucralose if they contain them; adding a half packet of stevia, or a few drops of liquid stevia to a glass, or can of lime, or lemon & lime flavored sparkling water makes it taste JUST like a diet sprite/7 Up; and as we just learned, we get the glucose/insulin lowering benefits.
The same applies to adding stevia to other flavors of sparkling water. You basically get a stevia sweetened carbonated drink for a much lower price than something like Zevia.

Great video on tea and coffee aspects.
Please note there has actually been a randomized control study in the Int. Journal of Obesity which has shown that Stevia, Monkfruit, Aspartame do spike insulin quite substantially after 3 hrs post-food. In another study it was 2 hrs. It does not spike insulin straight away the way Sucrose does (big spike after 1hr or less). Glucose has the fastest spike but also has easiest uptake into muscle and liver especially during exercise. Ad libitum food intake was also shown in the first study to be significantly higher for the artificial sweeteners compared with sucrose when the participants, hence, there was no difference in total daily energy intake between the artificial or sugar sweetener.

Higher blood levels of Erythritol are associated with increased belly fat and weight in young adults, according to a study by Cornell University and European scientists. Quite a few women in forums taking the stuff daily in their tea also noticed belly fat increasing so it's not just in studies. This does not occur in everyone but Erythritol side effects typically include digestive problems and diarrhea. It may also cause bloating, cramps, and gas. Sugar alcohols frequently result in more water in the intestines, causing diarrhea. It depends on the I have a friend who took Xylitol who ended up getting elevated LFT's and had to stop taking all sugar alcohols.

So far the only artificial (but still naturally-derived) sweetener that seems ok in non-fasting times at least is allulose (does not spike insulin). Because it does have a small amount of calories I still would not have it on a fast but its up to you how strict you want the fast to be.

Coffee could spike my insulin through the roof, and unfortunately I still won’t ever put it down. Ha 😂

I occasionally have Zevia with meals, but not while fasting. I like that soda cleanses the palate between bites. Might have been interesting to mention allulose.

I’m a coffee, water and finish the day with a warm unsweetened tea girl

I make lemonade/limeade with Whole Earth (stevia + erythitol + monk fruit) and I drink everyday and I know it's safe; I cannot add allulose because I have extreme reaction (bathroom effect)

I use splenda to help keep my blood sugar levels down!!! I don't care for monk fruit, I have to use more to get rid of the tartness for coffee, lemonade

Where's your study that shows fructose doesn't raise insulin levels?

Hey Thomas. You should do an updated video on protein sources in the grocery store and what to eat and what to avoid, particularly seafood.

Hi Thomas,
How about fermented drinks and foods, like combucha and kefir? Are the benefits of those worth the sugars and carbs they may have?

I tend to drink Celsius drinks when I want an energy drink, it's sweetened with stevia and erythritol. Sound like this drink is a much better drink vs others, as far as energy drinks go.

Sucralose is chlorine infused in sugar. Can you say depression.

Caffeine in Coffee and tea releases glucose stored in your liver; not sure if this spikes insulin but it will definitely raise blood sugar.

Occasional spiking of the insulin is not such of a problem. It is in fact what drives nutrients into the cells and it works as counteract to stress hormones like glucagon, adrenaline and cortisol. Staying long term in ketosis is in fact a far worse factor as the body runs on stress hormones, which are released for gluconeogenesis. Insulin is a anabolic hormone, the hormones release during ketosis are catabolic - think about it.

This excellent info Thomas. I have been wondering about stevia’s & monk fruit’s influence on insulin.👏🙏🏽

Unfortunately caffeine is a NO for me. My insulin spike goes up high enough to give me a blood sugar crash, I can't even drink black tea, or sodas with caffeine. Most of my life I was fine, but one day out of the blue it just changed. :(
