BRAN SPAWN HACK, Faster Production and More Nutrients

Показать описание
One of my favorite grain spawn hacks. Adding some wheat bran allows you to quickly balance the external moisture of your grain spawn allowing you to skip the air drying step and go directly from soak to pressure cooker. Adding bran also increases the nutrient density of your spawn and creates extra inoculation points leading to faster colonization and higher yields in your final substrate.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO ADD TOO MUCH BRAN OR IT CAN PULL THE MOISTURE OUT OF YOUR GRAIN IN THE PC. ADD A DUSTING OF BRAN AND MIX THOROUGHLY JUST UNTIL THE BRAN ABSORBS THE EXCESS MOISTURE.

Instead of air drying after straining, I have been just tossing in a wood pellet to the bottom of my quart jars before adding the grain. You don't get the additional nutrients like your method, but it's real quick and it works well.

One of your most brilliant tricks! Never went back to my previous grain spawn process since.

Glad to see you back! Enjoyed watching!

I use bran in my substrate and was actually wondering if it would help to add to the grain, but didn't think of using it to absorb excess moisture. Cool 👍🏼😎 👍🏼

Thanks for another great video. Short, savory, and savvy.

Do you have a video on how to do 2nd and 3rd flushes on grow bags?

Perfect timing.
Was having some grainspawn go to waste today.
I'll try this on the next batch.
Thanks

I do the same, but with sawdust (for wood lovers of course).
First to let have a flavor of what the mushsroom will eat later, and it has low C/N so surviving bacteria from sterilisation cannot eat it ;)

great video. I will try this with oats next time i make some spawn

I've actually done that with brown rice flour before, back in the old wild bird seed days. It was all I had on hand, and it actually even seemed a hair quicker to finish colonizing. That was probably a sign I was using slightly too much LC at the time, but I don't look any gift horse in the mouth.

OK, once again, my bro comes through, no bs, like the others, I can tell you a teal mfr, much love ❤️ brother! Keep up the realness, 💯!

I tried this tek and had good results with some Lion's Mane jars. It did make it a bit tricky to clean out my regular mouth quart jars though, but I may have added too much bran. I am going to add gypsum to my jars to try and keep the bran from being so sticky (1/4 teaspoon). I will report results!

I found bran flakes at my local feed store for about $0.45/lb for a 40lb bag, much more affordable than the grocery store bran.

Thanks for the videos, I like them.

i was thinking today to try the same thing with sawdust! Hopefully the myc will be already be used to eating that before going to bag. I never thought of that, I guess it's similar to adding wood broth to your agar

I love watching your videos, like and subscribe. The method you demonstrate seems to work well; if you allow, I would like to share my own. Over the past few years, I have been trying to perfect and simplify the grain preparation process, working with oats and wheat. Now, I just soak the grain wheat in water for 2 days, changing the water. I drain the water from the bucket (No towels or trays, everything is in the bucket where the grain was soaked) and add coniferous wood sawdust there (the kind I could get from a place where they process wood, I think it’s mostly spruce.) I mix everything in proportions that are individually tailored to be slightly moist. I don’t like washing jars, and considering the capacity of my pressure cooker, I use bags. I fill the bag, leaving 5 cm to the filter—I measured this to be equivalent to three 3-liter jars, and sterilize for 40 minutes. Inoculation with a liquid culture is 20 ml per bag.
Performing this procedure systematically showed that this works well for (oyster and black pearl, nameko, chestnut), allowing a large volume of mycelium to be obtained in one bag at once. Spruce sawdust, as I suspect, prevent bacteria from developing, and considering the proportion relative to the grain, it does not hinder growth and absorbs excess moisture. For exotic mushrooms, as practice shows, this volume is too large, so I returned to using jars.

I’m trying that on my next grain spawn .Thanks

Is there any way endospores in bran cause issues in future, even after sterilization?

Thanks for sharing this awesome Renegade Bran Spawn Tek. Love how the supplementation kills the drying time and adds benefits. Currently using this tek with 6 jars of rye berries in planning a grow of Lions Mane and Black Pearl Oysters. Thanks for letting us stand on your shoulders 🗿

If im drying some black kow manure compost, would using a little of this help dry it out faster ?
Or is this better to use for grain only ?
