I can’t believe this isn’t a thing all over the world. We’ve had this recycle system since I was a kid. I’m 48 now

As a kid in Finland it was a good way to spend time with friends going through all the nearby parks and woods looking for bottles and cans and then returning them to a kiosk and buy candy with the money. Makes you feel like you earned the candy and ensures you dont have to wonder if you're spending too much money on the candy.

It prevents so much littering bc ppl want their money back! It's so smart, I love it 💕

This needs to be all over the US… there’s so much litter and our recycling system is laughable

It's super cute to see kids take their family's deposit to the store and then buy themselves some treats with the money. I can't wait to let my kids do that!

I lived in Germany for a good period and this was my favourite thing about it lol, recycling and money back. What more could you want? And the pastries are really good lol 😭

First day in berlin i was instructed to not throw away my bottles when im done using them but instead put it next to the trash can so ppl would not need to go through the trash to find it👍

Not just Germany; quite a bit of north Western Europe has this. Very effective to make people want to recycle to save some precious money

In Finland it’s 0.40€ for 1.5 liter bottles, 0.20€ from 0.5 liter bottles and 0.20€ 0.25€ or 0.15€ for cans👍🏻

Back in the day most US states had a deposit on soda bottles and cans. In college I used to go around picking up the cans others just left lying around to get enough change to do my laundry. I hear many states no longer have deposits.

When i went to Germany around 2013 with my parents, we used to live in Wagum and there was this Edeka quite close by. And every afternoon, I would rush ahead and put in the plastic bottles for recycling and collect the money. Genuinely the best part of the day.

Highly efficient system.

Michigan in the USA started doing this in the 70s.
No idea why this is not use world wide.
as well, have always like how some north European countries have their jars for mustard or whatnot become drinking glasses on completion of the product it was holding.
