Trump Administration Fires Top NATO Commander Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield in Expanding Military Leadership Purge
Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield, a senior U.S. military representative to NATO, has been removed from her position as part of what appears to be a widening purge of top military officials by the Trump administration, according to Reuters sources.
This follows the recent dismissals of National Security Agency head General Timothy Haugh and Navy Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti, who was the first woman to hold that position. While the Pentagon has not officially confirmed Chatfield's firing, allies have reportedly been notified of her removal.
Chatfield was one of only a few female three-star Navy officers and made history as the first woman to lead the Naval War College. One source suggested her dismissal may be related to the Pentagon's crackdown on diversity initiatives, noting Chatfield's past comments about women in military leadership.
Senate Armed Services Committee's top Democrat Jack Reed called the dismissal "disgraceful" and criticized Republican silence on the unexplained firing of senior military leaders.
