Still impressive that with 6 years old hardware you can more or less play new games today. Back in the day computer bought in 1998 to play quake 2 would literally wont even start most of the games made in 2004 and later. For example Voodoo2 or Riva TNT was released in 1998 with those cards you wont get playable fps on ultra low settings in DOOM3 or Half-Life 2 from 2004.

Just ordered a setup with the 4080. After several years my current setup - I7 6700k with a 1080 - can retire. Guess with a 4080 and a i7 13700kf I am finally able to play Cyberpunk.

Thanks for all the years of service 6700k/1080 I loved you, you deserve to rest now. :D

The 1080 really did age well. Keep in mind the frames shown above are all at 1440p. At 1080p the frames would be much better. The card I use atm is the 6900xt which takes care of all my needs but I still have my old 1080 inside my eGPU. It's gives a nice boost to cheaper laptops and my ayaneo 2.

The games graphics don't even look that better compared to 6 years ago but its just the resource consumption that increased many folds.

Still happily running my 1080. Only had to replace fans recently. Not a big deal. Also the fact it's consuming in average 100 W less, with playable FPS at any time, is a nice plus.

Why do anyone on earth need a newer card than the 1080? Answer: no one needs it. Its just there to waste money and brain cells.

I loved my Aourus 1080ti until it smoked up. It was a wonderful graphics card back then. And the price was absolutely ok. If it had broken a year earlier, I would have gotten a new one. I think it came with a 5 or 6 year warranty.

I just went from my 1070 gtx / 1700x build to my 7800x3d / rtx 3090. Feels nice but I was always surprised how well my old rig still handled everything at 1440p. I bought my 1070 GTX in October of 2016 for $330 shipped to my door from newegg. Crazy how things have changed
