I've read that there was an update that lets a whooping TWO gilded gingers spawn per day. So, I memorized a path to take through the glass desert which yields a pretty high success rate of finding gilded gingers. It's not that hard to do once you make it routine. Now it's not uncommon for me to find all two gilded gingers in a single day. As a result, I've since fed a bunch of gold gordos and have collected thousands of gold ports.
