In Herand, this water powered sawmill has been active since late 1500s. Johan Haugen is operating it, and teaching new craftsmen how to use the saw, which is still very much in use for restoration projects, where you want the process to be authentic.

That's the most productive water powered saw mill I've ever seen! I was amazed at how small the water wheel was!

I have one big complaint about this far too short & not nearly as long as I would like it other than awesome!

Fantastic mill, and cutting really well. The water wheel is very interesting, more of an open turbine than a water wheel. I wonder how its efficiency compares with a water wheel with a diameter up to the top of that chute.
