I've had this stick for over a year now as well as the other iterations of this same style selfie stick without the tripod and don't entirely agree with your assessment of the design. The updated design that utilizes friction vs. twist lock is much better. The twist lock style will collapse constantly if there is any amount of vibration which was super annoying. Also, the new design based on friction allows you to extend to desired length rather than fixed lengths. As to the issue of the top portion popping yet to run into that issue. The thought never even crossed my mind that it could pop off in the way that it does and that's pretty good information to know. But in Insta360's defense, I don't imagine they designed the stick with the expectation that someone would be yanking on the very end of the stick super hard much less using the actual camera as leverage to retract the stick (which, although it's not totally obvious, is more than likely what you're doing). Whenever I retract the stick I never pull on just the end and definitely not the on camera when attached. I always slide it open using the long part in between ends (if that makes sense)...that was what felt like natural thing to do. It's not even that hard to open and close either and you make it sound like it's super hard. Should they or could they have fastened the top end but I don't think they accounted or expected for people to open it the way you do. Think about it, if this were a real issue loads of people would be complaining about it, including myself but that's not the case. You're essentially the first person that's brought this issue up. Of course you are entitled to your own opinion but I think people need to be aware of the points I just brought up and not jump to any conclusions based on what you've showcased.

The premium lens guards are around 50$ and i really recommend it to anyone that films nearby tarmac or concrete. I did buy the lens guards after letting my x2 fall while riding my MTB

It's the same freaking problem with the regular stick too. Broke my X2 on my first time actually filming with it.

I have owned the tripod selfiestick for a month and I like it.
Mine was actually slammed in a car door and it still works great. It did dent some.

Great news! With all that you've done to demonstrate and promote their cameras, they really should be taking care of you.

Wish I had seen this video before I purchased the camera. I didn't know the lenses would be so easy to scratch especially since it is an action camera. 😒 I purchased to film while skating so this would be $400 thrown away if it scratch when I fall. 😡

Oh no! I was watching your review because I wanted to buy one. Is the non-tripod version crimped also? Have you found a better tripod-stick to replace this?

Thanks for the heads up I was just about to order it. And the fact I use my camera flying, I would lose it on the air. That's a hard no again thanks for the heads up.

My selfie stick cross threaded the tripod thread. It was a hassle but they are replacing my insta360 one x2

Have you contacted Insta360? Seems like that stick is defective. Yikes! If you get it fixed, definitely look into the premium lens cover.

Can you recommend a better alternative for a pull out selfie stick at 120cm? I currently use the twist Insta360 one but get tired of repeatedly having to re-adjust it on the snow with gloves on when getting on and off the lift/ in between recordings. It's hard to un adjust and un screw in freezing temperatures too with snow gloves on.
