Driving Sydney's Monorail

In the final days before Sydney's Monorail ceased on 30th June 2013, Powerhouse Museum staff filmed the ride from the driver's cab. The Powerhouse has acquired this cab and a carriage for its collection. Read the full story at :

Feel like I just rode a train through City Skylines

It's a shame that they removed this instead of expanding to more areas and a second line, instead they replace it with a bus line to clog the roads more

I was a little boy in 2013, and I still remember the time I rode the monorail in its last days. I was not living in Australia at that time, but the experience of riding a “coming to an end” transport way was cool and memorable.

I still have my HO scale model of the Sydney mono rail. I bought it from your museum back in 1995. Works perfect and must be so rare now as I never see any others.

Man... Living in the center of sydney having had to walk to work, I always enjoyed looking up at the Monorail lines and seeing one casually roll past, Even more so being in one, The views were amazing, You got a point of view you don't get in any traditional forms of Transportation, It truly was my favourite thing to do on a weekend, Buy the $2.50 Sunday Ticket and ride the Monorail for 3 Hours, Taking in the sights.

Sad to see the demise of Monorail in sydney. Why is that we are going backwards?

I remember when I was really young and going on this. I literally still remember the fear of the train just falling off the rail. Sad to see it go.

I miss the Sydney Monorail! A truly great piece of machinery! Oh, and at the start, I always wondered how that giant metal platform full of Monorails worked...and now I know!

I have vague memories of 5-year old me riding this in 2000, watching the buildings blur by as I dozed off to sleep by my parents.

And yet in 2018 Seattle's Monorail with it's grand total of 2 whole stations is still running. :P

Sadly, it's gone now, i use to ride on it a lot in late 80s when it was just new and the full loop cost 2 dollars then .

After 11 years, I finally got to see the Monorail again! The exact train that filmed this trip is now at the Powerhouse in Castle Hill!

Should have never been removed - I'm all for expanding the light rail and all but the monotail was unique and should have been preserved

I have fond memories of visiting Sydney and going around by monorail. Thanks for uploading this video, it's great to see it from the driver's perspective!
