Hiiii, I have noticed in conversations with other people that there are some misconceptions about building with wood. That's why I wanted to have a chat about it and highlight some of the different aspects of wooden architecture like sustainability, fire protection, structural integrity, beauty etc...
I hope you enjoy it! Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are.

This is the best video I’ve seen on YouTube in quite a while. 💚

I cut trees down in the suburban/urban area of Philadelphia...I have been in this business for over 20 years and I am still amazed and appalled at how we are still paying money to get rid of the wood we are cutting down. There needs to be more research put into wood fiber/pulp/resin etc...all of the trees I cut down go to a place that grinds them up into mulch which is shipped all over the country. It breaks my heart (and my bottom line).

Have you heard of Shou Sugi Ban? It's a Japanese style of burning wood to make it more resistant to bugs, fireproof, and waterproofing. It's a really interesting way to treat wood for architecture. Love your videos, they are always super interesting.

Hello, BIM Girl! It's BIM a long time haven´t seen you. Great subject. Its use is getting improved also by using new cutting machines where even parametric design can be made and used to build furnitures, hoofs, etc. The confort and flexibility is remarkable. One question I was thinking... the carbon footprint from recicling plastic to build a chair for example, is it bigger than if it was made using hardwood? What do you think? (Here in Brazil, the hardwood extraction from Amazon and Atlantic coast forests, mostly are aimed for illegal export is out of control.) Have a great week!

I went to a building camp a few years ago that was all about working with natural elements. From bamboo and hemp to rock & strawbale. Are you familiar with William McDonough? It sounds like parts of his presentaion on carbon.
