Becoming a Market Wizard: Jason Shapiro's Journey to Success

In this video, Jason Shapiro talks about his personal journey in trading over the past 30+ years from high school student to stock market wizard. Without having to attend a fancy Ivy League school he currently owns and operates a hedge fund as a Commodity Trading Advisor and manages institutional client money. He explains that his process involves creating a return stream through his trading process that has zero correlation to any other trading strategy out there including trend following, mean reversion, or trading based on technical analysis. Jason's journey to get to where he is today was not an easy one, but he hopes that by sharing his experiences, viewers can learn from his mistakes and accelerate their learning curve. Jason always advises traders to stay disciplined and not let bad days, weeks, or months ruin them and to focus on making money over time rather than just in the short term. The motto at CMR is Slow Road to the Rich House and Jason lives by that.

Great background story Jason. Thank you for sharing. Do not fool yourselves, every trader that lived has blown an account at the beginning of their journey. Managing the psychology behind being a good trader is one of the hardest things you will ever do in your life. And the way to do it is when the markets knock you down, getting back on your feet, again and again and be humble. Trading is not an ATM machine; your gains will be inconsistent. Other than that, you can make a lot of money!

Interesting backstory Jason. Thanks for sharing. May I ask what did you study and or what qualifications did you gain to enable to you to work with hedge funds and then ultimately managing your own business and other peoples money? Many thanks.

Inspiring story and thank you for sharing! I am from Hong Kong and it is interesting to know that you traded Hang Seng Index back in the days. Given there is no Commitment of Traders Report in Hong Kong (at least, not that I am aware), do you think looking at the open interest of Callable Bull/Bear Contracts (i.e. CBBC) is a good proxy?

Excellent! I find my story is shaping up to be very similar to yours. Glad to know we are not alone in our tribulations.

Hi Jason, I really enjoy your videos, but I’m hearing a lot of noise from your mic getting touched.

Do you ever feel conflicted between being contrarian, but also not wanting to fight the trend? For me it's hard to honor both concepts.
