In today's hot or rot we discuss some recent controversial lipsync outcomes in grand finale episodes of Rupaul's Drag Race and why I think we should abolish the lipsync smackdown and lipsync for the crown challenges. Then, we take a look at the most recent lipsync smackdown from the grand finale of Canada's Drag Race: Canada vs the World 2.

I've always hated the lip sync for the crown and the example I always think of is: there's no way Bianca could've won her season if she had to do it, and how BS would that have been?

8:00 Cheryl didn’t officially get a win, but The Hole should have been hers if it wasn’t for a poor runway. And yep, Cheryl was on fire during the lip sync and could have made it to the final lip sync.

If they're gonna have a "finale contest" it should at the very least be: "You have 5 minutes to gag us - do anything you want."

Totally think we should abolish. If for no other reason than to prevent the fan backlash. All of the queens who have fallen victim of this absolutely deserved their wins and shouldn’t have to be told they don’t!

Can I just say how much it annoys me when a queen comes out with a coat covering their outfit then IMMEDIATELY take it off when the song starts. Why bother wearing it if it comes off immediately? That’s why I did love Lemons first lip sync because she took her time with it all.

The way Jinkx lost the final lip sync on All Stars 7 by a and still won the crown. The lip sync for the crown should have stopped there 😅😅

As a Brit, I'd be happy if they got rid of lipsync for your life as well, but I know lipsyncing is a massive part of US drag. My issue with it is that unless someone is particularly good or particularly bad, the judges/production can get rid of whoever they want. Plus I'm tired of seeing girls who fail at every challenge still get through to the last few weeks because they are good at mouthing the words to someone else's song and can do a backflip.

Making a decision about a winner based on a single lip sync (or series of lip syncs) is crazy. Lip syncs are part of most queens wheel house, but it’s not all of their specialty, and it doesn’t make sense to determine the outcome based on a few minutes. It could be part of the final outcome, but not the only factor. Lip syncs are so subjective; and the song can make all the difference. Let’s just dump it, at least for the crown.

Let’s just have the smackdown as a maxichallenge or not at all.

Instead of Lipsyncing against one another for the crown, they should have each finalist perform a number or two of their choice. Kind of like a “What is a typical (insert name here) drag show like? Show us”

That way, they can host, tell jokes, do other talents, etc. there would be so much more to focus on than just a reveal.

I completely agree about abolishing the lip sync finales completely. I absolutely LOVED the original songs, but even now that feels a little tired since as Bussy said, we see lip syncs ALL THE TIME throughout the season. Some sort of talent show that like actually showcases the queen’s skill set would be so cool and wayyyy more interesting to watch.

The upset over Lemon's win is kind of insane to me. I feel like Kennedy was the only one who came even slightly close to her in terms of consistency. She ate every episode up and honestly could've had more wins. What truly gets me is we've seen this queen grow across two seasons (obviously we couldn't see any of her on ukvstw) and she genuinely dominated the competition, having proved herself as a powerful queen. This is so insanely obvious to me and yet most people are yelling riggory and except for that one top placement in the ball, I don't see any of that whatsoever in the season. Even my boyfriend who didn't know most of the queens on this season and therefore had no bias, agreed that there wasn't any other option to crown cause she just slayed so hard. These folks were most likely kicking and screaming when Marina got eliminated after dominating the whole thing, and yet they're still mad that the winner had the best track record.
