Not seen any Renoir yet but looking forward to it. I was surprised when i found out recently that it was this short. It certainly has an interesting release history! I will anticipate them weather troublems also!

Does this film, or any other of Renoir's films, show a unicorn on a grassy hill in one of the shots? Not as part of the story, but more of a dreamy poetic moment that quickly passes. I saw such a film at a film-festival in my teens. I believe it was French, it was black and white and the time and setting looked very similar to A DAY IN THE COUNTRY. Anybody that knows the name of that film?

You might like to check out Renoir's wonderful FRENCH CANCAN (1954). It is superb and if you've seen Baz Luhrmann's MOULIN ROUGE you may begin to experience some deja vu. Renoir is such a disciplined filmmaker and he reserves his close ups for the end of the film when the Cancan is finally performed for the first time in the completed Moulin Rouge nightclub and the effect is utterly overwhelming.

Nice review. Tbh I'm not a big Renoir fan though he is stylish and composes a shot well - as one might expect given his dad. I think La Bete Humaine and La Grande Illusion are probably his best work (the late The River is arguably another contender) although I am fond of the fluffier colour work he did such as The Golden Coach or Elena and Her Men/
