Dogs in Nepal are Celebrated During Kukur Tihar Festival

Nepal Armed Police dog handlers and their dogs with vermilion on their foreheads and marigold garlands placed around their necks celebrate Kukur Tihar, Sunday, October 27, at the Armed Police Dog Training School in Kathmandu.
Nepal celebrates Kukur Tihar as part of the country's five-day long annual dog festival celebrated by Hindus.
Tihar, also known as Diwali, is a time to offer blessings to dogs, which according to Hindu tradition are the messengers of Yamraj, the god of death. Dogs have a special place in Hindu tradition and it is believed that they can help in the afterlife. (AFP)

in a 5 day festival called tihar. we worship crow, dog, cow and laxmi(goddess of wealth), ox and on the last day a sister prays for the best of her brother(or anyone on maternal side).
