Back in the 1970s they actually sent a Concorde filled with scientific equipment on a flight path over middle africa to view the solar eclipse since it was the only plane fast enough to chase the eclipse whilst having the cabin space required to house the equipment required to image it and study it.
It caught the eclipse for a full 80 minutes and is responsible for most of our understandings on the suns corona
