Some fun facts about the Harrier: While hovering, the yaw, pitch, and roll are controlled by engine bleed air directed to the wingtips, nose, and tail.
Also, the cannon should not be used while hovering for a few reasons 1- The cannon is partially operated using engine bleed air, not enough bleed air is available in a hover. 2- The recoil of the cannon is likely to cause a uncontrolled spin. 3- It is possible the smoke from the cannon could be ingested by the engine, causing a flameout.
