Most Sadistic Things Nero Ever Did

You’ve heard of Nero, of course. He’s a highlight of world history in high school - the crazy Roman emperor who supposedly fiddled with a tune while the city burned to the ground.

You’ve heard he was out of his mind, sure, but you have no idea exactly how nuts the last of the Julio-Claudian emperors was. Born into the twisted web of the Roman royal family, Nero was adopted by Emperor Claudius as heir to the Roman Empire. Nero distinguished himself as even crazier than any of his predecessors (which is saying something considering Caligula came before this guy).

Much like the story of George Washington chopping down the cherry tree is told to emphasize his honest and integrity, the story of Nero fiddling around while Rome burned probably is told to emphasize his casual cruelty and indifference to the people he was supposed to serve

The relationship between Agripinna, and Nero reminds me of Cersei and Joffrey from Game of Thrones.

@0:10 It's incredible when a person is known for their cruelty 2, 000 years later.

@1:52 That is suspicious and he did have motivation for the crime.

A detective would keep Nero as a prime suspect.

You know, I think of him through Caligula. They're both something else. Monsters.

Can you do a video on the Greek Underworld? Or a weird history of the wackiest Ancient Greek mythologies?

It's possible that the Fire of Rome, could have started in the same way as the Great Fire of London....an accidental fire in a local business or it could have been a house.
I think that Caligula and Commadus were just as bad in there own ways.

Would be nice if you did a video on Livia Drusilla, the wife of the first emperor of Rome. The tv series Domina is based on her life, and it seems pretty interesting!

@1:40 Encyclopedia Britannica is the oldest English-language general encyclopaedia, first published in 1768. (Encyclopedia Britannica)

That is what we used before search engines on the internet.

It’s a shame the name Sextus went out of style.

@1:40 Some people, especially for summer jobs, used to sell encyclopedias door-to-door.

I have a friend that went to East Coast and did that the entire summer!

@2:06 "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (single-1969) is a Rolling Stones song off their Let It Bleed (1969) album.

It was rated the "100th greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine in its 2004 list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time." (wikipedia)

He literally put his mother in a boat that was faulty. She was injured, but didn't die. Then he actually had her killed.
