Fresh frozen plasma.

Blood is actually made up of a bunch of different stuff, but it’s mostly made up of plasma,
whose job it is to carry nutrients, hormones, and proteins around to the parts of the body that need them. Plasma’s really helpful that way...

Starting in the 1950s, injections of donated plasma were used to treat people with hemophilia.

The problem is that a bag of fresh, frozen plasma only has a teeny tiny amount of clotting factor in it, so it didn’t really work that well. Plus, families would have to go to the hospital all the time for infusion appointments that could last hours.

Fresh frozen plasma was a first step, but science had some work to do...
