Retro Turbo Encabulator technology. Glad I lived long enough to see it.

Would want to see it running to see how it transfers motion while changing orientation

Absolutely amazing! I look forward to seeing how this evolves!

I would call it more of a joint, very cool nonetheless and i can see applications for that design especially in robotics.

You know this could actually be amazing for Prosthetics, as it gives movement, in almost every direction.

Looks to be equivalent to a double cardan joint. Does it jam under load at all? Does load cause any secondary forces/moments that work to disturb the orientation of the joint?

My guess as someone who has worked with a lot of 3D printed gears - these gears will strip under any significant load. Wear of those little knobbly bits would also be a nightmare, making the joint very high maintenance if used for long periods of time.

if it could handle high torque loads, that would be a great CV axle 😮

seems like a great replacement for ball-type CV joints in low torque applications

This is essentially the same as the Spherigears mechanism by Oskar van Deventer

Interesting design, would love to see how it holds up against traditional universal joints in flexibility, efficiency and wear&tear.

it's very satisfying to watch. Any chance you have the step files?

this is super freaking cool. great job.

Looks like it would make a good massage tool.

Good concept. Assuming that the gears themselves do not rotate around the open centered axis of each, the surface area on which the teeth are printed could be reduced to the possible contact area of each gear. The product may not look as cool, but would likely decrease material costs

Coupled rotation along one axis with free rotation about the other two, nice

You can use this to make mechanical hands ✋👌 amazing job ya did here man! Keep on keeping on🎉❤

Whats the pont of it, a more complex version of a U-joint?

Cool. I keep waiting for it to start rolling, but that's not what it does. It's a kind of universal joint. With very good angles of traverse(?). It looks like it can tilt more before it binds, maybe. I'm not sure it can hold much force, but I could see it being useful in certain applications. Certainly not a driveshaft though.

Awesome, a harder to manufacture universal joint that'll wear far quicker and strip the gears under any actual load!
